NIKOLAY ALEKSEEVICH NEKRASOV
(1821—1878)

Just like Pushkin and Lermontov, Nekrasov created the whole world in Russian poetry. His contemporaries realized it and he was also
recognized by those who criticized the great poet’s publik and literary views. “Love gusts of this poet are so often sincere, pure and just
full of feeling! His striving for being close to people is so high that he can take the highest position as a poet”, - wrote Dostoevsky with a
deep respect for the memory of Nekrasov.

Nekrasov’s poetry was truly innovative. The topics of his poetry, which had been believed to be too “prosaic” for a lyric poet before,
were touched upon for the first time. An outdois scene, “a picture”, would be able to be used as material for only a satirical sketch or a
reporter’s essay “were remelted” by the poet into the form of a parable or a heart-to-heart song. Responding to the most burning
questions of political life in Russia, experiencing the period of severe social calamaties, Nekrasov appealed to the genre-traditional writing
of an ode, “high” elegy. “A muse of revenge and Sorrow” was able to join in the public activities and take part in the matter of people’s
liberation only due to the great power of an aesthetical influence.

A live conversational folk speed was exposed with its full expression and colon in the poet’s lyre, especially in his worldwide poems.
Nekrasov can be highly praized for his contribution to the development of Russian journalism. The journals “The contemporary” and
“The Home notes” guided by him played a great part in the development of public awareness, they were the leading organizations of
revolutionary and democratic ideas. A lot of outstanding words of Russian literature were published on those pages.
